Why Can't Barcelona Fill Their Stadium?

FC Barcelona may be one of the best-supported clubs in the world, and their fanbase may be growing with each passing year, yet it has become tougher than ever to sell out the Camp Nou.
The Camp Nou boasts the largest capacity of any European stadium, with 99,354. That’s comfortably ahead of Wembley, Signal Iduna Park, the Santiago Bernabéu and the Luzhniki, the next biggest grounds in Europe. The problem for FC Barcelona, however, is that they’ve been struggling to fill it in recent times.

It's an incorrect assumption Barcelona cannot fill their stadium. Of course they can. If Barcelona play a La Liga game or Champions League game where tickets are 5 euros they will get 99,000 provided fans have sufficient notice of such price.....................Why don't Barcelona is the actual question. There are multiple reasons (many not explored in this video) but you can easily identify an economic trend driving football. Matchday revenue is limited, capacity is set and even expansion can add extra seats but never provides impact without huge investment.................La Liga/Champions League is now a global export. TV rights, advertising in game and club aligned official advertising provide greater opportunities to grow income compared to fixed match day revenues. Barcelona when they play in front of cameras attract millions. I like this channel but in most cases explanations are too simplified or like this outlandish. Terrorism affects attendance? Fuck me that's a claim these guys couldn't ever prove. I'll break it down.......................................Football is the world's largest game. Barcelona are one of the largest clubs in the world's largest game. I can't ever recall in history a major European club dealing with a terrorist attack. Arianna Grande was attacked so people stopped going to ed Sheeran concerts right? No. They didn't even stop going to her return concert. This channel is good. Like tactics for dummies 101. Terrorism? Give over. I'd love the opportunity to debate publicly the creators of this channel on many of their topics butthat's the flaw of non-conversational analysis. You can post any old shit and nobody is exposed to a reply. ...........................If I could create one video, just one, it would be a conversational video over several hours with any podcast related to analysis or channels such as Tifo.

Perhaps a fair point, would have been to mention they have 85k season ticket holders, which shows the problem is greater still.

Because most of their fans are glory hunters, who have no interest in spending a plane ticket to travel across the world to watch a team play?

I’m not surprised...I paid 85 euro for a seat at the very top once, vs Sevilla. No screens, crappy speaker, no info, 0 entertainment, really cold, shitty snacks, no beer, impossible to see who’s who without binoculars (or knowing the way the player moves). Even if I lived there I wouldn’t go to any match...

Prices are expensive indeed. Cheapest ticket 10 years ago (2007-2008 season ) were 19EUR. They are now 39EUR ! Check our website and our ticket prices comparing tool allowing to score the cheapest tickets available when there are none available on the official website.

It makes no sense to me when big clubs can't fill their stadiums, isn't it preferable to sell tickets for cheaper on match-days than have empty seats? If unsold tickets were half-price on the day then you'd also most likely get a younger more energetic crowd which could have a positive effect of atmosphere.

Wtf? When do barcelona tickets cost only 40€ ?? I watched the game against huesca, this september and when i was looking for ticket, they began at 60€ at the very top behind the goal, if you were near the field the prices ranged from 90-150€ and even the top level of the middle teibune were above 100€ so no, there is no chance you are going to watch barcelona at a reasonable price, and IF there really were tickets that cheap, they are gone like within 5 seconds, but the average price of 40-60€ is completely unrealistic

BIGGEST FACTOR THAT WASN'T MENTIONED: La Liga does not confirm game date/time until 2 weeks before the game - if you buy tickets any further in advance and they change the schedule last minute, you have to miss the game.... >:( .... If people were more confident in making a ticket purchase, Barca/La Liga might actually fill the seats!!

Oh is Athletic Club a mid-table club? Only as Real Madrid and Barcelona, this team has played in LaLiga its 88 years of history. Besides, Athletic Club is the 2nd team with most Copa Del Rey (24 trophies), only under Barcelona. This team has also won 8 leagues. So, tell me again, is this a mid-table team or is it a hystorical team?

In min 1:36 there is a mistake: Visits fell by 13,9% according to Spain´s National Institute of Statistics. That is true but to be precise what fell was the tourism from the rest of Spain, not in general. Spanish tourist fell but Tourist from the rest of the world up.

Locals are prized out. It now mainly geared towards tourist fans. I paid €125 to see Barcelona play AC Milan in the UCL in 2011 and that was through official ticketing channels. Who in the hell can afford that cost week in week out? For me it was a 1 off occasion.

My gut says that over 40% are Chinese tourists who just spent €150 on shirts and scarfs an hour before the match. You always see them cheering on TV when there’s a match in Camp Nou. I fee like there is no real European football atmosphere to be found in Camp Nou, or am I wrong?

Why do you have to include a supporter with the independentist flag (min.0:29)? Most of FCBarcelona supporters don´t support this idea and thus it does not represent the club. I suggest to change this for a fan carrying the club flag or the official "comunidad autonoma" one. Don´t mix politics with sport and don´t include revolutionary, reactionary and retrograde ideas please.

They will increase the capacity of the venue because the stadium is asymmetrical, in order to develop a continuous roof for the expectators they must transform it into a symmetrical construction. The average ticket price' cost will be reduced and it would be more likely that fans will attend even in the most unnatractive matches.

Another reason is that there is not true competition in la liga. There is no excitement when Barcelona plays against a lower level opponent, all the fans know that Barcelona will win easily. Alabama is having the same problem with their college football team students are not attending the games, saying that they already know they are going to win so there is no reason to watch.

Imagine Real Madrid had attendance issues? They would be blasted about plastic fans. But, when Barcelona has low attendance., its due to all these external reasons of tourism and terror attacks. The double standards between these two clubs is insane. Remember when the media crucified Real Madrid for buying talent and not developing it like the all-mighty Barcelona? Oh how the tables have turned. This club will always be the little brother of Real Madrid, no matter how hard the media circle jerks them
